Technique : Multiplanar, Multisequence MR Imaging
Findings:
Vertebrae:
Lumbar spine shows moderate spondylosis.
Grade / Retrolisthesis of L5 over S1noted.
Facetal and logamentum flavum hypertrophy at L5-S1.
Spinal Canal: Anteroposterior spinal canal diameters from L1 to L5 are 12, 12, 12.5, and 12mm respectively.
Intervertebral discs:
Diffuse disc dehydration noted at L5-S1.
L5-S1: Moderate impression on thecal sac and bilateral adjacent traversing S1 nerve roots(right > left) due to broad based herniation and facetal/ ligamentum flavum hypertrophy. The disc herniation shows encroachment towards right neural foramina.

We are not qualified to read MRIs.Most of us are chronic pain patients that share information based on our own experiences. It looks like your mom has a herniated disc and arthritis in her facet joints from what I can tell. What type of treatment have the docs suggested? Do they think that she needs surgery? Have any other options at all been offered? My opinion is that surgery should be avoided if you are not riskung permanent nerve damage and are able to use other options for pain relief. I can only imagine how scary it must be with your mom in another country. Hopefully some other members will stop by and share their opinion with you. Good luck and please keep us posted on your moms progress.
