Hi folks,
I am a 55 year young caucasion female who was just diagnosed with osteoporosis in my spine. The DEXA test was -2.6. I've been physically active for over 30 years with doing weight lifting and on the treadmill 5-6 times a week. I have NEVER taken any medication in my life with the exception of Advil.
My GYN wants me to take Actonel but after reading all the horrendous side effects of all the bone medications I am scared to death! I've researched Actonel, Fosomax, Boniva, Reclast as well as Calcitonin and Evista.....the only one that seems somewhat ok is Calcitonin...although the side effects of nasal problems, severe nose bleeds, rash and hives is scarry.
Has anyone had ANY success with a particular bone medication that I can take?
Thank you.
Not to delude you but I tried both Fosomax and Actonel and neither made any difference in my DEXA scores. (Who really knows however without the meds what the difference might have been). I had no side effects from either but stopped them as with no improvement I felt there was no need to continue. I'm under the supervision of a doctor who has said that I should see what happens if I take no meds for a year. Again, I fell, on my wrists, with a force that both wrists SHOULD have broken, neither did and that said my current doctor is my real bone density test! Good luck and don't stop the works outs!!!
