When an XLIF Might be Performed

The XLIF procedure can be used for a variety of lumbar spinal disorders that may be treated with spinal fusion. These conditions may include:

  • Degenerative disc disease (Fig. 1, 2)
  • Degenerative scoliosis (Fig. 3, 4)
  • Low grade spondylolisthesis (Fig. 5, 6)
  • Spinal deformity (Fig. 7, 8)
  • Foraminal stenosis (a type of spinal stenosis) requiring disc height restoration
  • Recurrent lumbar disc herniations
  • A thoracic disc herniation (Fig. 9, 10)
